Proposal – To build an early warning, noninvasive wearable to detect physiological conditions from anxiety to Zygomycosis.
Problem - There are some current solutions that are precise, yet costly in terms of money spent and time to receive results. They also require FDA approval because they are invasive devices, which add to the high price to get these tests performed. There are some devices that can monitor and provide indicators with a short turn around time to get results. However, they are limited to a few biomarkers. If they need to add more biomarkers, the consumer will need to purchase new hardware to get the upgrade. There is research being done to try to build systems with multiple biomarker capability, yet they use electrolytic cells to determine if the biomarker exists. Again, the cells are biomarker sensitive. The hardware, for new biomarkers, would need to be configured with the new cells. Thus, the user would have to purchase new hardware for the updated capabilities. The durability of the sensors because the sensors will corrode over time. This means that over a period, the test results degrade in quality.
Solution - Monitoring sweat is the new frontier for monitoring biomarkers. There is research done by Caltech and UC Irvine to create electrolytic cells in a wearable device. However, they have their limitations as described above. There are also companies that make devices that is the heart of the Bead wearable that measure for biomarkers. However, these devices have not been reduced in scale to be wearable. Therefore, the Bead is designed to monitor multiple biomarkers without having to update the hardware to add new biomarkers to be tested. The only thing that would be upgraded is the software. The device will support AI agent machine learning. These agents will determine and perform a battery of tests to provide a true diagnosis. Another advantage to this device is that it is non-invasive. Therefore, the need for FDA approval is not necessary.
Market - In 2025, the global sales reached 72.58 billion USD. By 2034, it should grow at a rate of 9.76% to estimated sales of 167.81 billion. Since our device is designed to be able to detect multiple biomarkers by augmenting the software, we can get a majority market share. So by 2034, we will have over 84 billion USD in sales per year.
Conclusion - When this device is used by customers, it will provide an early warning on potential serious problems. Early prevention will increase the effectiveness of treatment. Therefore, it will reduce total costs for the patient and health-care provider.
